Avanti Communications, a global provider of satellite connectivity services, has successfully conducted satellite connectivity tests with BankservAfrica and Capitec Bank, financial institutions in South Africa. These tests carried out on Avanti’s GEO Ka HTS satellite, demonstrated robustness and reliability crucial for uninterrupted financial transactions even under challenging conditions.
The tests underscored the satellite connection’s durability and consistent stability, essential factors ensuring seamless financial operations. Avanti’s satellite link proved capable of handling high transaction volumes during intensive production testing, highlighting its resilience in managing mission-critical applications. The tests confirmed that Avanti’s satellite link can effectively support financial traffic independently, mitigating risks associated with terrestrial link failures such as fiber cuts or power disruptions.
In a statement, Gamze Aydin, Senior Vice President of Sales and South Africa Country Manager at Avanti, emphasized the strategic importance of this achievement for South Africa’s financial sector. Aydin noted, “With South Africa’s financial institutions facing the threats of power grid instabilities and undersea cable malfunctions, this test is a forerunner of strengthened operational resilience. By enabling direct satellite connection to European traffic hubs, Avanti’s solution reduces reliance on local infrastructure, which is prone to disruption.”
Avanti’s initiative marks a significant advancement in enhancing the resilience of financial services across Africa. The successful completion of these tests signifies an important milestone, validating the viability of satellite communication in maintaining stable and reliable transaction environments amidst infrastructure challenges.
Satellite connectivity is playing an increased role in connectivity in Africa and Avanti’s satellite solutions are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital connectivity in Africa.
