Eutelsat OneWeb bolsters Libya’s internet with multimillion-dollar LEO partnership

Eutelsat Group, the world’s first combined GEO-LEO satellite operator, has secured a landmark deal with Rawafed Libya for Telecommunications & Technology (RLTT), expanding its footprint and fueling high-speed connectivity across Libya. This multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement builds on RLTT’s existing relationship with Eutelsat Group, adding a groundbreaking hybrid bundle of enhanced GEO and cutting-edge Low Earth Orbit (LEO) services.

Eutelsat OneWeb, Eutelsat Group’s dedicated connectivity unit, will provide exclusive access to its LEO constellation, delivering seamless, low-latency connectivity across Libya starting in early 2024. This empowers diverse sectors, including:

  • Oil and Gas: Enhancing operational efficiency and data transfer.
  • Financial Services: Facilitating secure, real-time transactions.
  • Government: Supporting critical infrastructure and communication.
  • Telecoms: Providing reliable cellular backhaul.
  • Humanitarian Aid: Enabling vital connections in remote areas.

“Eutelsat OneWeb was formed to bring together GEO and LEO constellations to meet a growing customer need for integrated satellite connectivity, and the extension of our relationship with RLTT shows we are delivering. We continue to see huge demand for high-speed connectivity as we roll out our LEO services globally, with the wide variety of potential use cases that the increased resilience offers proving highly attractive to customers. By building on existing customer relationships, we are able to grow the business in international markets and continue to bridge the digital divide globally” says Cyril Dujardin, Co-General Manager of Eutelsat OneWeb.

Taha Ellafi, Chairman of RLTT, echoes the enthusiasm: “We have been working with Eutelsat Group for several years now and are excited to bring its high-speed, low-latency connectivity to our customers across the oil and gas, cellular backhaul and humanitarian sectors. By combining both LEO and GEO powered connectivity, we are able to meet the different needs of our customers without having to use multiple providers. Through this exclusive deal, we look forward to bringing unmatched connectivity across Libya.”

This deal follows Eutelsat OneWeb’s recent partnership with NEC XON for Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting the company’s rapid growth and commitment to closing the digital gap across the continent.

Eutelsat OneWeb and RLTT’s collaboration marks a significant step in bridging the digital divide and empowering Libya with high-speed, reliable connectivity across various sectors.
