Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko has been appointed Acting Director General of Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA), the country’s telecommunications regulator.

With over 20 years of experience in telecommunications, broadcasting regulation, and ICT policy, Fianko has been instrumental in radio frequency spectrum management and led Ghana’s transition from analogue to digital broadcasting. Internationally, he serves on the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and has contributed to key regulatory initiatives across Africa.

Since joining the NCA in 2004, he has risen through the ranks, most recently serving as Director of the Engineering Division, where he oversaw licensing and spectrum management. His expertise extends to organizations like the African Telecommunication Union (ATU) and ECOWAS Commission, shaping regional telecom policies.

Fianko holds degrees from KNUST, Buckinghamshire New University, and Universidad Católica de Murcia. He is a member of GhIE and IEEE, a published author, and a minister in the Methodist Church Ghana.

He succeeds Dr. Joe Anokye, a respected telecommunications expert with extensive public and private sector experience.
