Orange Botswana has recently introduced its cutting-edge Tier III Certified Data Center, located at the Botswana Digital Innovation Hub and Technology Park. This launch reflects the company’s commitment to technological leadership and innovation in the country, with a focus on enhancing national and international network connectivity for improved customer experiences.
Speaking at the event, Thulagano Segokgo, Minister of Communications, Knowledge, and Technology, emphasized the government’s dedication to digital technology accessibility. According to him, this is why major investments are continually made to update the country’s ICT policies and regulations, invest in key infrastructure, and create a favourable operational environment for the growth of ICT use and the industry in Botswana.
Orange Botswana’s CEO, Nene Maiga, highlighted the substantial investment of over P70 million in the data center infrastructure, symbolizing the company’s commitment to fortifying Botswana’s technological landscape. The data center boasts advanced security features, technological systems, and an environmentally conscious design, aligning with global standards, including Uptime Tier Certification (Tier 3), ensuring high availability and reliability.
“We have paramount confidence that this is a significant step in Botswana’s technological advancement. Through this venture, we have not only introduced a highly skilled workforce but have also played a pivotal role in fostering economic growth within the ICT sector,” she said.
Maiga expressed confidence in the data center’s capability to offer uninterrupted services, including cloud solutions, real-time communication, and 5G connectivity. The center’s concurrent maintainability feature allows for maintenance without service interruption, enhancing customer satisfaction.
In his remarks, Brelotte Ba, the Deputy CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa, emphasized that the newly established data center is poised to propel technological progress and spearhead digital inclusion. He highlighted that the data center lays the foundation for a burgeoning digital economy, empowering enterprises, individuals, and communities alike.
Ba stated, “This data center will act as a catalyst for economic growth, providing the technological foundation required for businesses to thrive in the digital age.” He further noted that the facility would empower Orange Botswana to deliver swifter, more secure, and innovative services to its consumers, heralding a transformative wave of positive change in the region.
