Orange Business has announced the successful completion of the first phase of its data center infrastructure project in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. The data center is designed to support Grifols Egypt for Plasma Derivatives (GEPD), an initiative
dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of Egyptians by providing access to safe and high-quality, marks a significant milestone in the collaborative effort between Orange and GEPD.
Located within the New Administrative Capital’s Medical City, this new facility will house crucial communications infrastructure essential for GEPD’s operations. This project includes colocation services, communication solutions, equipment procurement support, and professional services provided by Orange Business.
GEPD, a joint venture between Egypt’s National Service Projects Organization and the global healthcare company Grifols, is dedicated to achieving self-sufficiency in plasma-derived medicines for Egypt. The Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) commercial and telco data center, where the project is based, is equipped to offer both colocation and cloud hosting options and is certified for design, build, and operation (DBO).
Kristof Symons, CEO of International at Orange Business, commented, “We are delighted to put our experience at the service of this vital national health project in Egypt and to contribute to its implementation and operations. This ambitious project empowered by GEPD should be an example of how private and government institutions are in the best position to enable fundamental changes for a country.”
Dr. Ahmed Serag, Chief Strategy and Projects Officer for GEPD expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are glad to announce this successful collaboration with Orange Business. This achievement enhances the GEPD strategy that prioritizes utilizing cutting-edge technologies while ensuring a positive impact on the industry, economy, and most importantly the quality of life for Egyptian patients.”
Dr. Serag highlighted the project’s scope, noting, “Grifols Egypt WAN will interconnect critical facilities, including the plasma laboratory, colocation data center, plasma warehouse, 20 plasma donation centers, and a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. This comprehensive network infrastructure will ensure efficient operations and the timely delivery of plasma-derived medicines to patients in need.”
The development of the ACUD data center was first announced by Orange in November 2021, with an estimated cost of $135 million. It is intended to support all smart city platforms within the New Administrative Capital.
