Earlier this week President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order that is expected to give his administration further control over government agencies, including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The order also includes other government agencies such as the Federal Election Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Federal Trade Commission.
Currently, the FCC isn’t under the direct control of the White House.
Trump’s order wants to ensure all independent federal agencies submit draft regulations to be reviewed by the White House before any implementation.

“So-called independent agencies like the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have exercised enormous power over the American people without Presidential oversight,” said a White House fact sheet.
“These agencies issue rules and regulations that cost billions of dollars and implicate some of the most controversial policy matters, and they do so without the review of the democratically elected president.”
The fact sheet adds that the order means: “Now they [government agencies] will no longer impose rules on the American people without oversight or accountability.”
President Trump appointed Brendan Carr as Chair of the FCC in November, shortly after his election victory.
