The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has launched LinXaccra, its first interconnection point in West Africa, marking a milestone for Ghana’s digital infrastructure.
At the launch, Communication Minister Hon. Samuel Nartey George welcomed the initiative, calling Ghana “a true gateway to Africa” and stating, “This development is a huge step toward improving customer experience. Having an IXP here means we don’t have to transmit traffic all the way to Europe before it gets back to our phones. That reduces latency, improves speed, and ensures a much better experience for users.”

He emphasised industry collaboration, noting, “We are not in competition. This industry thrives on cooperation. I am pleased to see the synergy between LINX and local data centres.”
LinXaccra CEO Jennifer Holmes said the facility, hosted across Onix, Digital Realty, and Web data centres, is “one of the largest internet exchange points in the world” and will enable faster, more direct data flow. “ISPs will be able to connect directly to these centres, enhancing performance and reliability for consumers,” she added.
The new exchange is expected to lower latency, improve connectivity, and cement Ghana’s role as a digital leader in Africa.
