Nigeria’s telecoms regulators get new bosses in sweeping industry change

In an authoritative move echoing the new digital signposts for Nigeria, Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu appointed five new Chief Executive Officers across multiple agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy with immediate effect.

In a statement by the  Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, titled, ‘President Tinubu appoints new leadership across the communications, innovation, and digital economy sectors’, President Tinubu appointed Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission; Nkechi Egerton-Idehen as Managing Director of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited; Kashifu Abdullahi as Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency; Dr. Vincent Olatunji as National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission and Tola Odeyemi as Postmaster General, Nigerian Postal Service.

Before his role, Aminu Maida, was the former Executive Director, Technology & Operations at Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System where he played a strategic role in building Nigeria’s financial industry.

Nkechi  (Jane) Egerton-Idehen is a former Country Manager for Avanti Communications and  previously served as the Middle East and Africa Head of Sales at Meta.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi remains the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer (DG/CEO) of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and previously worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Galaxy Backbone and Cisco.

Dr. Vincent Olatunji has been confirmed as the National Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), and was previously an Acting Director General at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Tola Odeyemi  who assumes the leadership role as the Postmaster General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), was previously Head of Public Policy for West Africa at Uber as well as a stint as Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Environmental Trust Fund.

President Tinubu also appointed a new Special Adviser on Technology and Digital Economy, Idris Alubankudi.
