NAPAfrica, Africa’s leading internet exchange point and sixth largest globally., has attained a peak traffic of 4 TBPS, barely 1 week after celebrating a peak of 3.95 TBPS daily.
The company has also announced the inclusion of TikTok, the world’s largest small video sharing platform to its growing community.
With this move, NAP Africa has cemented itself as the fastest growing and largest IXP in Africa.
With over 250 carriers and networks present, the addition of TikTok is attributed to the active peering community’s benefits, providing cost-effective, efficient distribution of content to consumers. The 4Tbps traffic milestone reflects a 33% growth in traffic volumes in less than a year since NAPAfrica reached the 3Tbps threshold in March 2023.
NAPAfrica serves as a cornerstone for content providers and enterprises looking to expand into Africa, supporting internet and communication needs, and cloud adoption strategies. The growth in NAPAfrica’s traffic aligns with the increasing demand for data-intensive applications, cloud services, and the rising popularity of video, content, and gaming delivery services across the continent.
NAPAfrica, established in 2012, has become the continent’s largest internet exchange, playing a pivotal role in transforming Africa’s internet access and interconnection. With over 560 active member ASNs (Autonomous System Numbers) from over 50 countries, NAPAfrica is the sixth-largest IXP globally. The exchange operates within Teraco’s data centers in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg, servicing the Southern Africa region.
