Equinix, the world’s leading digital infrastructure company, has appointed Wole Abu as Managing Director for West Africa. In this newly created role, Wole will oversee Equinix’s connectivity and data center business operations across Nigeria, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire, helping to expand the company’s presence and drive further integration in the region. Working closely with both local businesses and multinational corporations, he aims to strengthen the digital ecosystem and accelerate growth in West Africa.
Wole succeeds Funke Opeke, the founder and former CEO of MainOne, who has transitioned into a strategic advisor role for Equinix in the region through March 2026. With over 20 years of experience in the Nigerian telecom industry, Wole is well-equipped to lead Equinix’s efforts in West Africa. Prior to joining Equinix, Wole served as CEO for Nigeria at Liquid Intelligent Technologies and Africa Data Centres (ADC). Known for his leadership and commitment to societal change, Wole is particularly focused on advancing digital connectivity and access to technology across the region.
In his new position, Wole will also spearhead Equinix’s community-focused initiatives in West Africa, aiming to drive meaningful impact through projects related to education, sustainability, and social progress. This aligns with Equinix’s commitment to supporting environmental and community goals as part of its broader mission to foster sustainable development.
“I’m excited to join Equinix because we share a common vision for expanding digital infrastructure across Africa,” Abu said. “By empowering both businesses and individuals, we are enabling broader participation in the global digital economy. I’m eager to contribute to this transformative effort and help create a more connected and accessible digital landscape across the continent.”
Judith Gardiner, Vice President for Growth and Emerging Markets at Equinix, said “We are delighted to have Wole join Equinix as the leader driving our operations in West Africa. With his expertise, we will support local businesses and multinational companies in expanding into Africa and beyond through Equinix.”
