Raxio, a leading carrier-neutral, data center company in Africa has announced the appointment of Robert Skjødt as its new CEO, effective January 1. Skjødt succeeds Robert Mullins, who will continue with the company as an advisor. Mullins led Raxio for the past five years and was instrumental to its last raise of $46 million in equity funding from existing shareholders, Roha and Meridiam, and $170 million in debt from Proparco and the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF).
Before joining Raxio, Skjødt held various leadership positions in global energy, renewables, and digital infrastructure companies. Over the last decade, he has focused on Africa, where he spearheaded the creation of BTE, a renewable energy firm.
Mullins reflected on the company’s journey: “When we started, our mission was to build one data center in Uganda. Today, Raxio stands as the only operator with a presence in seven African countries. I am confident that under Robert Skjødt’s leadership, the company will not only expand its footprint and capacity but also set new standards for sustainability and operational excellence in the industry.”
In his comments, Skjødt noted, “Our goal is to accelerate Africa’s growth responsibly. By combining Raxio’s expertise in data center development with sustainable energy practices, we can provide essential infrastructure that not only meets the needs of today but also preserves resources for future generations. I’m excited to lead Raxio in expanding our reach and deepening our commitment to environmental stewardship.”
Raxio’s current expansion strategy is focused on underserved markets.
It is currently in Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Ivory Coast, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and plans to open new facilities in Angola, and Tanzania
