Equinix has announced plans to build LG3, a new $22 million data center in Lagos – its first ground-up build in West Africa and part of a broader $100 million investment plan across the continent. Scheduled to open in Q1 2026, LG3 will strengthen Nigeria’s role as a regional connectivity hub, linking businesses to global markets through Equinix Fabric, which allows secure, on-demand connections to clouds and partners worldwide.

“LG3 marks a milestone in bridging Africa’s digital divide,” said Wole Abu, Managing Director for West Africa. “We’re not just building infrastructure – we’re empowering innovation and laying the groundwork for an interconnected African economy.”

The project builds on Equinix’s 2022 entry into Africa and follows its data center expansions in South Africa, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire. As Lagos cements its position among the world’s top 100 startup ecosystems, the investment reflects growing global confidence in Nigeria’s digital potential – from AI and fintech to cloud and enterprise connectivity. This marks Equinix’s first purpose-built facility in West Africa, following its acquisition of MainOne and its four data centers across Nigeria, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire. Last year, the company commissioned its first African greenfield facility in South Africa – a 20 MW data center built at a cost of $160 million. The total capacity for the upcoming Lagos site has not yet been disclosed.

Equinix says its Africa expansion will combine sustainability, reliability, and open access, aligning with Nigeria’s ambitions to become a digital economy powerhouse linked by subsea cables and regional cloud infrastructure.
