Rack Centre, a carrier and cloud-neutral data center based in West Africa, is training artisans from its host community for their involvement in the construction of LGS2, its new data center project in Lagos, Nigeria.
This program aims to equip artisans, including carpenters, masons, plumbers, and others, with essential skills and knowledge necessary for their meaningful participation in the construction of LGS2. Covering a wide range of subjects such as safety protocols, construction techniques, and the operation of specialized equipment, this initiative, scheduled to commence in October 2023 and span nine months, not only promises artisans valuable experience but also enhances their competitiveness and income potential.
Rack Centre chief operating officer Ezekiel Egboye said the initiative will provide artisans with the opportunity to gain valuable experience working on a major construction project, “making them more competitive and increase their earning potential.”
Upon program completion, participants will receive certificates, qualifying them to work on the construction of LGS2.
This sustainable endeavor aligns with Rack Centre’s strategic vision and complements its pivotal role in the data center landscape in Oregun, Lagos, offering a robust ecosystem with access to diverse telecommunication carriers, ISPs, Tier 1 networks, and international carriers, further solidifying its importance in the region. Rack Centre is connected to 65 telecommunication carriers, internet service providers, (ISPs), global Tier 1 networks, and pan Africa international carriers, including direct interconnections to all major subsea cables serving the South Atlantic Coast of Africa including Equiano and in the foreseeable future 2Africa, and every country on the Atlantic coast of Africa.
The new data center is situated on a 20,000 square meters green field site and sits at over 30 meters above sea level, and is expected to provide Rack Centre an increased IT load of 13.5MW in its Lagos facility.
