Infrastructure and digital services provider Cassava Technologies has unveiled Cassava AI, a new business unit focused on artificial intelligence. This expansion builds on the company’s existing partnerships with major tech players, including Microsoft, Google, AWS, Anthropic, Oracle, Atlas AI, Cerebras, and Palo Alto Networks.

Liquid C2, a Cassava Technologies company previously announced a partnership with artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic, to develop AI solutions that empower African businesses across various industries, accelerating growth and positioning Africa as a key player in the digital landscape.

Headquartered in London, Cassava AI is poised to deliver its services across more than 40 markets spanning Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, said Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies.

Ahmed El Beheiry, a seasoned technology and telecoms executive, will lead the new unit.

Cassava AI’s offerings will include data centers, cloud services, cybersecurity, fiber connectivity, and renewable energy solutions. The unit has already equipped over 200 AI specialists from its 5,000-strong workforce to assist clients in adopting generative AI (GenAI) technologies.

This launch aligns with Cassava’s broader investment strategy in Africa. Last month, Africa Data Centres, a subsidiary of Cassava, announced an expansion of its Cape Town facility (CPT1) by an additional 6MW of IT load, effectively doubling its capacity. This expansion follows an R2 billion (US$112 million) financing solution arranged by Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) in June 2024 to meet rising demand for cloud services.

This strategic expansion is part of Cassava’s commitment to invest 4.5 billion South African rand (US$249 million) in South Africa through its various business units, including Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Africa Data Centres, and Distributed Power Africa.
