IFC expands data center infrastructure investment in Africa with $100 Million to Raxio Group

Raxio Group, a key player in Sub-Saharan Africa’s digital infrastructure ecosystem, has secured $100 million in financing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. The funding will fuel Raxio’s ambitious expansion plans, including the rollout of high-performance colocation data centers tailored to support AI, cloud computing, and digital financial services—technologies that are becoming vital to the region’s economic and digital transformation.

With the new capital, Raxio aims to double its data center footprint over the next three years, targeting underserved and high-growth markets such as Ethiopia, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, and Angola. The company is building Tier III-certified, carrier-neutral facilities in regions often overlooked by other providers, addressing critical gaps in digital infrastructure.

“Raxio’s business model shows how digital infrastructure can empower businesses, governments, and communities to thrive in the digital economy,” said Sarvesh Suri, IFC Regional Industry Director for Infrastructure and Natural Resources in Africa. “This partnership is set to strengthen Africa’s digital ecosystem, catalyze further investment, and support regional integration.”

The financing package from IFC builds on earlier debt investments from Proparco and the Emerging Africa Asia Infrastructure Fund (EAAIF), with equity support from Roha Group and Meridiam. It also includes concessional funding from the GROW Africa Facility and the IDA Private Sector Window – mechanisms designed to promote gender equity, inclusive growth, and private investment in fragile and low-income markets.

“This funding from IFC is a powerful endorsement of Raxio’s vision and operational excellence,” said Robert Skjødt, CEO of Raxio Group. “It will enable us to bring critical infrastructure to regions that need it most, while attracting further investment as we scale. Together with our partners, we’re laying the groundwork for Africa’s digital future.”
Raxio Group is a growing operator in Africa and provides Tier III carrier-neutral colocation data centers, delivering reliable, scalable infrastructure across Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, DRC, Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, and Angola to power the continent’s digital growth.
