Nigeria is moving to accelerate its sovereign cloud and digital economy ambitions following the launch of a new strategic partnership between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the International Data Center Authority (IDCA).

The initiative aims to establish an execution-driven national digital infrastructure framework combining hyperscale data centers, cloud infrastructure, regulatory standards and workforce development into a coordinated investment platform.

At the centre of the programme is the proposed “Nigeria Digital Triangle” – a network of AI-enabled hyperscale data center clusters intended to support cloud, enterprise and emerging AI workloads while strengthening Nigeria’s position as a regional digital infrastructure hub.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader Sovereign Cloud strategy and will focus on four pillars: a national digital economy masterplan, hyperscale infrastructure deployment, globally aligned standards and long-term digital skills development.

NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa described the initiative as a defining step in advancing Nigeria’s digital economy and data sovereignty agenda through infrastructure investment, talent development and innovation-led growth.

In his comments, IDCA Chairman Mehdi Paryavi said the programme is designed to help Nigeria build long-term competitiveness in the global digital economy by integrating infrastructure, policy and investment into a single execution framework.

The programme will be implemented over three years through collaboration between government agencies, private-sector operators and international ecosystem partners.
