South Africa’s democratic governance, President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Solly Malatsi as the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies. Malatsi’s appointment marks the first time a non-African National Congress (ANC) member has held this influential position.
President Ramaphosa announced Malatsi’s appointment on Sunday, alongside Mondli Gungubele of the ANC, who will serve as Malatsi’s deputy. This decision forms part of the country’s seventh administration, which is characterized by a Government of National Unity (GNU) comprising 11 political parties.
Emphasizing the importance of inclusivity in the national executive, President Ramaphosa underscored the challenges facing the country and the electoral mandate that necessitated such appointments.
Solly Malatsi, a prominent member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), has been a Member of the National Assembly since 2014. He brings with him a wealth of experience, having served in various leadership roles within the DA, including Deputy Federal Chairperson since 2023.
The DA has welcomed Malatsi’s appointment, expressing its commitment to contributing to national governance with a focus on governance excellence, anti-corruption measures, and pragmatic policy-making aimed at achieving tangible outcomes.
Malatsi’s elevation to this crucial role in South Africa’s government signals a new chapter in the country’s political landscape, reflecting broader efforts towards unity and effective governance.
