Tunisie Telecom has entered a strategic partnership with Medusa Submarine Cable System to support its 5G rollout by developing a high-capacity fibre-optic link between Bizerte, Tunisia, and Marseille, France. The link, set to offer 20 Tbps capacity, is scheduled for completion in early 2026, with work beginning this year.
The agreement was formalized at a signing ceremony at Tunisie Telecom’s headquarters, attended by Chairman and CEO Lassâad Ben Dhiab and Medusa CEO Norman Albi. Also present were Sofiene Hemissi, Tunisia’s minister of communication technologies, and the negotiating team.
Hemissi highlighted the project’s role in strengthening Tunisia’s digital sovereignty and enhancing its regional and global standing in the digital sector.
Ben Dhiab expressed pride in the initiative, stating, “We are particularly proud to be part of this trans-Mediterranean digital connectivity project. By integrating our fibre-optic infrastructure with this Mediterranean system, Tunisie Telecom will provide more innovative and secure solutions to better meet customer expectations while contributing to the development of Tunisia’s digital ecosystem.”
