At ITW Africa, a dedicated Women-in-Tech Africa forum brought together some of the sector’s most influential female voices to press for lasting change in how the continent builds its digital future.

Opening the session, Faith Waithaka, Chairperson of the Africa Data Centers Association, argued that diversity must be treated as an economic imperative. “You cannot build Africa’s digital economy on half its talent pool,” she told delegates.

Executives Caroline Kamaitha (General Manager, Uganda, Raxio), Catherine Muraga,
(MD, Microsoft ADC & Engineering Director, Microsoft) Maria Miguel Pinto (General Manager, Angola, Raxio) drew on personal journeys to illustrate the persistence required to break into senior leadership. Their stories echoed a wider theme: female advancement in telecoms often means navigating barriers their male peers rarely face.

That point carried into a discussion featuring Chanél Oldfield (Head of CAPACITI) and Susan Mbatia (Director, Corporate Development, iColo). Moderated by Waithaka, the panel addressed how companies can move beyond rhetoric by embedding mentorship, creating enforceable policies, and building a sustainable pipeline of talent.

Habsatou Nadia (Founder & President, Learn&Adapt) led the workshop and applied the CliftonStrengths assessment

The morning closed on a practical note, with speakers urging participants to “accelerate your career with what makes you unique,” positioning individuality as a competitive edge in an industry still struggling with representation.

The forum left no doubt: while challenges remain, women are not only demanding a seat at the table – they are building the frameworks to ensure the table itself endures.
