Medallion Data Center a Digital Realty company, has launched its second data center in Lagos, Nigeria, following the completion of its rebrand. The new data center, called LOS2, has an additional one megawatt of IT capacity and will be interconnected with the company’s existing LOS1 data center. In a statement, the company said that the expansion is a response to the growing demand for local hosting of content and data in Nigeria.
The LOS2 Data Center is a 3-floor building with 232 racks and 8 kilowatt of rack density. It also comes with a dual power supply and redundant fiber connection to LOS1, LOS3, LLK1, and LKK2. The data center is also Tier 3+ DLR Global compliant and has an electrical IT system topology in 2N configuration.
Speaking at the launch, Mike Hollands, Digital Realty’s Vice President of Market Development, said that the company was attracted to Medallion by the tremendous value held in the original data center. He also noted that there has been a tremendous amount of demand from existing customers to expand in Nigeria, and that the new data center will help to facilitate this growth.
The launch of the LOS2 Data Center is a significant development for the Nigerian digital infrastructure sector. It will provide businesses with more options for local hosting of their data and content, and it will also help to improve connectivity and performance for internet users in Nigeria.
Digital Realty’s investment in Nigeria’s data centers is driven by the country’s strong digital infrastructure fundamentals, including a growing internet-connected population, improved broadband penetration, and the presence of hyperscalers, large content networks, and medium- and small-scale businesses.
